Around fifty vehicles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.

Automobiles, walls and mailboxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they announced in a statement.

Law enforcement state they were notified during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.

The substance had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.

Law enforcement then found numerous other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.

Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation banning the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.

Police state initial examinations show the fluid was most likely human blood.

"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; officials are currently not aware of any injuries in relation with the incident," they stated.

Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to unravel the mystery" and have asked to the residents for details.

A senior official said the attack left him stunned and required to be solved rapidly.

"This incident hits the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing violent incident half a decade ago," he stated on online, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a gunman targeting people of immigrant origin in 2020.
